Reflection

12 Dimensions Critical Reflection

Part #1

12 dimensions are important to everyone and its essential to know where do you lye on this 12 dimensions to be able to communicate efficiently. I can choose these three dimensions to define them the way I understood them and how do I feel about them. The three dimensions are destiny, connecting, and Decision-making.

First of all the most dimension I think is important for me is destiny. Destiny is either directed or directive and mainly its about who takes control over yourself if it is you which means directive or its someone on top of you which can be the parents or your boss and this would be directed.

Secondly connecting is essential in every environment either at home, school or work. Connecting is meant to describe wither a parson is an exclusive or inclusive connector with other people, you can tell that by looking at how a person interacts with people surrounding him. For instance if a person is at work and he’s and exclusive connecting person he wont interact or include anyone strange in his relationship or working area and the opposite for and inclusive person.

Finally, decision-making is when your decisions are depending on two factors, which are relationship and rules. If it depends on relationship it would be that every time you wanted to do something you’ll think about the people in this situations not the rules that apply to it.

Part #2

Based on my CMI report I can see that I’m an exclusive connector which some how not what I can trying to be, on the other hand it also shows that my decision are mostly taken upon relationship which is almost true because the first thing I think about when it come to taking decisions is my parents and the people involved in the issue that I should be deciding about.

In addiction, compared to my group I’m lying on the community side in the accountability dimension but most of the group is individuals, for instance I always try doing my work in groups to help others.

Moreover I sincerely agree with my results because it almost describes me but there are few things that I want to improve in my self such as being and exclusive person I want to be more open to get into relations with more people and get to know more about them and share interests together.

Part #3

I think the results won’ t be the same after 5 years because as I mentioned earlier that there are few thin that I wanted to change in my self such as being and community accountability person, I want to be more individual person as in 5 year time I would be working and having my own family I should have the ability to control and handle stuff individually.

However the results that I have now really shows what kind of a person I am, and I’m quite sure that it would change in 5 years time an I willing to take the same test again to see how my result would be different because when moving from one state of living to another makes a huge different in a person’s life.

For instance now I’m studying but after 5 years I would be working, my view to life would be different and the way I see things will also change. I would like to be a different person and I’m looking forward to make that difference in my life as I think it would make me a more successful person and achieve more in life and have long lasting relationships.

Exercise #7

Extra: Elect FNC members on ‘qualifications'

This article is about electing, voting and choosing candidates. The clearest dimensions that i found were outlook with the polarity innovation and status with the polarity ascribed. First outlook innovation was when Ali Al Nuaimi and Tariq Lootah where stating that the participant who are voting need to think about the candidate who has the qualification and whom they'll benefit from and based on “charisma”. Secondly status ascribed because people vote for the person who is know by the name not by the qualification. The person with the well-known name didn't work to reach that position and get what he has thats because its depending on his name and tribe.

The problem was solved when the small kid gave him he's seat and then he sat on his leg, I think is solution is kind of cultural because if your a kid and u see and elder standing you should stand and let the elder sit.

He was shocked when Puro told him that a lot of tourist who try the iced drink get ill and he immediately felt is stomach paining and then the first thing he thought about is how far is the hotel he wanted to get rest and sit alone for a while.

7. Todd wants to check in to a hotel. But Puro insists he comes to a boarding house. What is the reason he gives Todd?

Exercise #4 – World Cultures/ World Choices

How does Culture/ and the 12 Dimensions influence:
  • Life Choices?
  • Thinking?
  • Sense of Group / Accountability?
    Asian model:
The 3 dimensions that I will be discussing and are there in the Asian model is communication, expression, connecting. All the 3 dimensions influences people life choices, the way of thinking and the accountability. It influences by the choices the group which the person belongs to make, but the person as a whole can't have the ability to make their own choices as it should focus on interdependence and harmony. Firstly the Asian model depends on the indirect communication for instance you can't communicate with the leader of the group directly that's part of the culture. Secondly Asian culture is identified by the most culture that doesn't depend on self-expression. As it was mentioned in the model that I read it says that in japan being a "going your own way" person is to be immature and not culturally sophisticated. That's a clear example about not having a chance to expresses what they are feeling and that they are not having a choice except to conceal what they feel. Since they don't have the ability to expresses their feelings and what they are thinking about, as a result of that the person can't have his own view of thinking or in other words he can't think "out of the box". Thirdly, they way Asian people connect is exclusive that is because they only connect with people they know or in other ways people from their own society and group. One of my own experience is when I travelled in summer 2013 to china and Hong Kong I had the chance to see the Asian culture from a closer view and what I noticed is that they really don't want or even wish to see strangers or people from out of their country talking to them or interacting with them, they are really exclusive in connecting between each other or in groups. After discussing the Asian model I'll be saying how does the Arabic culture or to be more specific lets say the UAE culture influences my choices, as I'm a lady the choices that I have is way more less then the choices that the men have. For example what major I can study or where would I be working in the future, these choices depend on the cultural and traditions. Women in our culture have limited choices that also depend on our culture. Moreover self-expression is very important for me but it sometimes comes with no use so I find myself concealing at most time.

Extra: Brides

Thwarted brides turn to the courts in UAE

Conflict

The conflict is about Emirati women who their parents don't allow them to marry a specific man and not giving a reason for the refusal, which leads the women to court to get married. On the other hand courts don't allow the women to get married immediately until they investigate and take all actions with the guardians and the suitor.

World-views

There are two world-views which are represented in this conflict, which are honor-shame and power-fear. Firstly, if the family refused the man that proposed to their daughter they should have a reason for refusing and i think that the women should have the right to choose. On the other hand power- fear is a big part of this as the parents can control the daughter just like that, even if there is no reason. Secondly, honor-shame is what the parents think of, for instance the father first thinks about the ancestry and tribalism which is something the women won't mind about, this is honor-shame view of the parents.

Exercise #3

Adapting to a new culture - Avoiding conflict
Able-Unable
  1. Evelyn: She was able to adapt. She was trying to find a job and went out, trying to talk to Indian citizens.
  2. Mrs. Hardcastle: She was able to adapt by compromising with the manger Patel by telling him she'd sleep in his room as her room has no door.
  3. Mrs. Donnelly  She couldn't adapt with the surrounding because she came to India to get her hip replaced, and she wanted to leave as soon as possible. In addition she didn't try to adapt or in another way she refused to.
  4. Mr + Mrs Ainslie: Mr.Ainslie adapted with the Indian people as he went out tried learning more about India and want to visit the Indian temples.  Mrs.Ainslie stayed at the hotel all day so I guess this seems that she wasn't able to adapt, another thing is that when her husband told her to come with him to the Indian temple she refused and stayed in the hotel.
  5. Mr. Graham: He adapted with the Indian environment and tried playing cricket with the kids, after not finding the address that he was looking for. In fact he was happy.

Exercise #2

World Views
Part (A) ''Emirati women and workforce in a clash of culture'' article

Where is the conflict AND Who is involved (views)??
The conflict is in UAE and the people involves are all local emirate citizens male and female

What is the conflict? What is the basis/ the cause of the problem?
The conflict is that local men which are closed minded still think that women can't study or even work in a mixed environment.

What is/ are the cultural View(s) (I/G; H/S; P/F) behind the conflict?
I believe that the cultural views behind this topic is Honer/shame and power/fear.

What is the best solution to the problem?
In my opinion the best solution to this issue is to raise awareness between men that men and women has no difference nowadays and they should be doing the same thing, this includes working studying and daily routines and they should be treated equally. However, some families won't change the way they think because it influences on how their raised, thats why females should deal with the fact that their families are not allowing mixed environment working and studying, so they should be persevere with that and try their best at what they are doing.

Part (B) From your WorldViews quiz:

Explain what your world-view is and how it influences how you see the world.
My worldview was strong on the guilt - innocence part. As I always see everything from the side on being right or wrong. I guess I can say that i'm always looking at things this way because i was raised like this. You can't be forced on doing the wrong thing unless fear is getting over you. This influence how i see the world because where i live is not the same where other people around the world live. And what they go throw as a country, living style and thoughts.

Exercise #1

Is bullfighting cultural acceptable? OR should we as traveler's to help make changes in traditions??
In my opinion bullfighting cultural is not acceptable, because it cause more harm to people and at the end bulls get killed for no reason, we as travels can't make this tradition change but we can save our self in not joining this kind of harmful traditions.
